Equipment and Clothing
Matches are played in whites and cricket boots, whites are optional for practice, but cricket shoes/boots are necessary. The range of equipment can be extensive and expensive covering bats, balls, pads, gloves etc. and as youngsters develop they usually purchase their own kit. However H.C.C. does provide kit for use of juniors and we recommend restraint from high capital outlay until youngsters have decided they really like the game. We would recommend whites, shoes/boots and an abdominal guard as personal essentials before progressing to other items of kit. One further mandatory item for both practice and matches is a helmet, all young players must wear one, but again initially they could use one belonging to the club. Second hand equipment and clothing is often available to buy on registration evenings.
Communications
The club uses a variety of means to communicate with members, a notice board is sited inside the front entrance to the club, we write out or use e-mail on specific issues such as enrolment night, presentation evening etc. Our web site www.heatoncricketclub.co.uk is gradually being extended, and most importantly we are keen to meet and discuss any issues face to face.
Safety
We provide adequate levels of supervision by using qualified and caring personnel during matches and training sessions, but we cannot ensure your child’s safety when using the club at other times. We therefore ask parents to exercise their parental responsibility in ensuring their child is adequately supervised when using the club outside of match and training sessions. We carry limited personal accident cover for all juniors in match and training situations, details of which can be obtained from the Club Secretary, however individuals may wish to provide more extensive cover privately.
Safe Hands Policy
The ECB's Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children is available for you to download on the ECB Website
Standards
Our aim is to enable youngsters to develop basic and (where relevant) advanced cricket skills so that they can progress to higher levels of cricket, but the primary objective is for them to enjoy their cricket in a happy and pleasant environment. In addition to skills and techniques they will be taught teamwork, fair play and experience a culture of good behaviour. To these ends we have developed codes of conduct for our coaches, and for parents/carers, and also for our junior players to which we seek parental commitment.
Travelling
Parents should make arrangements for their child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session, if they are not making their own way home. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact the appropriate Team Manager or Coach and let them know.
Team Selection
Teams are selected on ability, but a pre requirement for consideration is that we expect juniors to attend junior practice sessions on a regular basis. If they are unable to attend because of holidays or other reasons, then they should inform their coach or team manager in advance, otherwise they will not be considered for selection.
